2020 Thanksgiving Farm Wedding Giveaway

To say our Thanksgiving wedding give away day was special doesn't do it justice!  All weddings are special and ,in some ways, for John and me, this felt like an ordinary wedding at our farm.  That is to say we did what we needed to do to get the place ready and clean and then we stepped back and let others take over.  It is always fun to see a wedding come together, but this one was extraordinary because all the vendors that came together didn't get paid for their services.  They all volunteered to do this wedding for Jennifer and Steve because they were all touched by their story and the sacrifices they have made over and over for the health of everybody during this pandemic.  The whole thing was really kind of miraculous.

First of all, the weather cooperated on a grand scale!  It was warm and sunny.  There was enough of a little coolness in the air to make it feel like Thanksgiving.  Holland Rent All provided the chairs and tables for free and even added some portable heaters in case it got chilly. Susan, the florist, decorated the wedding arbor with the most amazing combination of pinks and corals and reds and golds and elegant greenery.  She repeated those color schemes on the tables under the pavilion in farm style low wooden boxes.   Along with the flowers were  cream colored wooden candlesticks on navy blue tablecloths.  This looked  quite striking up next to the rust color of the barn.  Sergio and Dana got there early to set up all their equipment and did a marvelous job with the background music while the guests were arriving.  Byron, the Golf Cart Guy, left us two fancy and fast golf carts.  John and Jackson loved driving the guests from the parking lot to the barn in those carts!

The ceremony itself was short and sweet and beautiful. My favorite part was when Jennifer came out of the barn doors to see her fellow hospital workers gathered there to cheer for her.   She was gorgeous!  Hair and make up wonder woman , Mary, also did fancy updos for the bridesmaids and they all looked so elegant. Hannah wore a  long navy blue gown and Bobby wore coral, so they matched the color scheme.  Hannah's father was the officiant leading the couples in their vows and Dana sang beautifully during the ceremony.  I could have listened to Dana sing all night!

Afterwards, the guests gathered under the pavilion, appropriately socially distanced at their tables by families.   The vintage gold colored Tap Truck was parked on the gravel near our silo.  What a special touch this was!  Guests enjoyed a wide variety of craft beers while they waited for dinner. It was worth the wait!  Chef Vaughn cooked up quite a delicious post Thanksgiving feast.  For appetizers there were shots of squash soup, turkey, stuffing, and cranberry croquettes sliders,  and an abundant selection of fresh fruit.   He also served up salmon and chicken and potatoes and veggies.  Our friend, Holt Boone donated his coffee machine for after dinner drinks. And then as the sun went down, John drove Jennifer and Steve in a golf cart to get sunset pictures and kisses out in the fields!  I think this was the most romantic part of the day!

Once it was dark, DJ Royal turned up his party dance music.  It was a great mixture of rap and hip hop, rock and roll and country  It was quite simply tons of fun!   And there was a fire going up in the fire pit next to the barn for those who wanted to chill out that way.  For dessert not only was there a scrumptious white cake with raspberry filling made by Hannah's mom, there was an amazing assortment of decadent doughnuts and colorful cupcakes.  We all partied until about 6:30 or 7 until it was time for the bride and groom to say their good-byes.  Jennfer and Steve went off in style with a sparkler exit in front of the barn.  John drove them off in the golf cart and that was that! Later in the spring they will enjoy a honeymoon in North Myrtle Beach in a house provided by our friends, Tom and Marie McEvoy.

We call the whole thing a great success.  To me, it underscores the living gospel message of the loaves and fishes.  When we all give abundantly and act out of love and gratitude, things multiply on a grand scale.

The photographer, Angela, captured all this, and will share her pictures soon.  Kudos to her for working so hard all day long!
